Abstract |
Montreal filmmaker G. Scott MacLeod fuses pencil animation with new digital media to provide a depiction of the Irish immigrant experience in Quebec. Written and narrated by Mike Burns, a Montreal storyteller, The Irishman - Child of the Gael is the story of thousands Irish immigrants fleeing desperate conditions in nineteenth century Ireland who arrived in Canada to a different type of struggle involving quarantine, isolation, prejudice and backbreaking employment, building the Victoria Bridge and constructing the canals and railways that opened Canada’s frontiers to trade, settlement and prosperity.
