| Abstract |
The author points out that the influence of antiquity in Quebec can be significantly traced through several areas of cultural activity. First under the era when Quebec was a colony of France, then a colony of Britain, these European settlers in Quebec each brought their own culture, both inherited from antiquity. The author focuses on various aspects of culture that reflect the influence of antiquity, as imprinted by the two founding nations, French and English, from the beginnings of the colony to the present day. She includes five chapters dealing with cultural activities -- architecture, painting, sculpture, publishing, and cemeteries -- to bolster her argument.
