Abstract |
The British-born Philip Henry Gosse (1801-1888) came to the Eastern Townships in the mid-1830s with the vision of becoming a gentleman farmer. He soon returned to England where he became a widely read naturalist after publishing The Canadian Naturalist in 1840, which was based on careful observations of the plants and animals in the vicinity of his Compton Township farm.
