Abstract |
In 1855, the Foster Brothers Glass Works was established in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. In 1880, this company was bought by a group of Montreal businessmen headed by William and David Yuile. The Yuiles moved the firm to Montreal and in 1890 changed its name to the Dominion Glass Company. The Yuiles were innovators and led in the transition from hand operations to automatic glassmaking machinery. The authors study of the development of automatic bottle blowing machines during the early decades of the twentieth century.
