The Shaping of Québec Politics and Society: Colonialism, Power, and the Transition to Capitalism in the 19th Century
|
| Abstract |
A Marxist analysis challenging the traditional historiographical interpretation that Quebec history from the Conquest to the Act of Union was essentially a "national" struggle of French Canadians against British colonial administrators and English-speaking merchants. The authors view this period from a socio-political perspective. Although the primary focus of the book is on French-speaking Lower Canada, the authors do touch on English Quebec historiography.
