Title
Canada Learns to Play: The Emergence of Organized Sport in Canada, 1807-1914
Abstract
Although the book emphasizes the role played by English-speaking males from Montreal's upper class in advancing organized sports throughout the country, it does include an account of the Montreal Shamrocks, a working-class Irish Catholic lacrosse, and later ice hockey, team. The Shamrocks lacrosse team was founded in 1867, and the Shamrocks hockey team was founded in 1886.
