Abraham de Sola, a Jewish Publisher in Victorian Montreal
|
| Abstract |
Reverend Abraham de Sola (1825-1882), rabbi of Montreal’s Spanish and Portuguese Congregation Shearith Israel, published numerous religious texts. According to the author, de Sola was anxious to provide Jewish translations of the Bible as a cultural bulwark to the sporadic but annoying nineteenth-century Christian missions to the Jews.
