A Victorian Scandal: The Asylum at Longue Pointe
|
Abstract |
The Rose Lynam case of 1884, combined with the report and exposé of Daniel Hack Tuke, a noted British asylum reformer, focused attention on the horrors of Quebec asylums for the insane and the misery of mental patients. Unfortunately, the resulting passage of laws in May 1885 designed to place the province's asylums under medical supervision proved to be highly unpopular.
