| Abstract |
An eyewitness account of Montreal’s Jewish community during the three decades when it was transformed from a Yiddish-speaking immigrant population in working-class neighbourhoods to a largely English-speaking society in middle-class suburbs. Yaacov Zipper (1900-1982) was a Montreal Yiddish writer and longtime principal of the Jewish Peretz School, who during much of his life supported the Labour-Zionist Hechalutz movement.
