Montreal's Jewish Public Library (Di Yidishe Folks Biblyotek) opened in May 1914. The author outlines the founding of the library by the city's Yiddish-speaking Ashkenazi Jews who had immigrated from eastern European at the turn of the twentieth century, and the books and archives that the library now holds.
