Abstract |
The reprint of a letter, written on April 25, 1849, by Reverend William Rufus Seaver, a Congregationalist minister and Montreal shopkeeper, giving his eye-witness account of the riot by some English Montrealers which followed the signing of the Rebellion Losses Bill by Governor General Lord Elgin. The riot resulted in the burning of the Parliament building, which in April 1849 was located in the St. Anne's Market area of Montreal.
