| Abstract |
An undertaking by the author that examines a literature review and a survey of the legislative, regulatory and policy measures adopted by the provinces and territories to govern public libraries and language practices. The author also looks at the contribution of university libraries, on the one hand, and that of community libraries and book fairs, on the other, to the vitality of official language minority communities (OLMCs). The literature review showed that the issue of official languages in libraries is poorly covered in research. The author found that: "In Quebec, the lack of comprehensive data makes it difficult to understand the whole dynamic around Anglophone community libraries, although we have identified over 10 of them. Many of them have played an important historical role in the establishment of public libraries in Quebec. Some are
partially integrated into the public system (via access to their catalogue), but they seem relatively isolated, while some have encountered major difficulties, notably the Fraser-Hickson Institute Library." The report's bibliography contains a mere twelve titles relating to Quebec.
