Abstract |
An attack on Montreal's English-language press for its approval - both open and tacit - of the Duplessis regime. Laurendeau referred to the concept of the colonial figurehead, the "Negro King", in the article (as he had in a July 4, 1958 editorial in Le Devoir newspaper) to describe Quebec Premier Maurice Duplessis (1890-1959) and his place in Quebec and Canadian affairs.
