Les débuts du tourisme au Québec

Abstract |
The author points out that the first notion of tourism within and to Quebec can be traced to the end of the seventeenth century but was not popularized until the nineteenth century when modes of travel and accommodations became more luxurious. She contends that “elite tourism” to such Quebec destinations as Murray Bay (now La Malbaie), Métis-sur-Mer, and Lakes Memphremagog, Massawippi and Brome in the Eastern Townships were the preferred destinations of well-to-do English Canadians and Americans.
