Shawinigan Falls de 1898 à 1930 : l’émergence d’une ville industrielle au sein du monde rural
|
Abstract |
Shawinigan Water and Power Company attracted big manufacturing plants to the rural area of Shawinigan Falls from the turn of the twentieth century to the 1930s, but the authors contend that Shawinigan was not a company town. The type of development Shawinigan experienced resulted from the meeting of two social universes – rural and industrial. A small local bourgeoisie eventually developed that was not entirely pledged to the big firms, and which compelled the firms to share the municipal taxation in a fair manner.
