Abstract |
The British-born Henry Atkinson (1790-1865) immigrated to Quebec in 1812 to re-unite with his three brothers. In 1817, Henry founded a sawmill at Montmorency Falls, and went on to make his fortune in the timber business. He also owned several properties in and around Quebec City, including at one-time Spencer Wood (the future Bois-de-Coulonge). The author focuses on the villa he built at Cap-Rouge, known as Redcliff or Carouge., and the succeeding owners of the building and property until 2006.
