In 1912, the Canadian Vickers Shipyard was established in the east-end of Montreal. In 1920, the company was declared perfect for assembling seaplanes, and later land planes. A new plant was built in the Montreal suburb of St. Laurent, where land-based aircraft construction continued until 1984 under the Canadair name.
