Langue de travail de la population immigrée recensée en 2006 dans la RMR de Montréal

Abstract |
Based on 2006 census data, the author examines the language of work used by immigrants living in the Montreal area to determine how they are integrating into (French) Quebec society. The author found that among the main findings of her explanatory analysis, she noted that immigrants’ education and linguistic profile, their country of origin and period of immigration were the variables most strongly associated with the use of French, English or bilingualism at work in 2006. She concludes that the proportions of English use at work increase as the level of education of immigrants increases and, while immigrants from Francotropic countries use mainly French at work and those from Anglotropic countries English, immigrants from countries without linguistic influence use English at work in 50 percent of cases. and French in less than a third.
