Abstract |
A history of one of the earliest examples of a foreign-owned arms manufacturer in Canada. In 1911, the British firm of Vickers Ltd. established a Canadian subsidiary, centered in Montreal, to undertake ship construction principally for the Canadian Navy. During the First World War, Canadian Vickers was the largest shipbuilding enterprise in Canada. The parent firm sold Canadian Vickers to Montreal investors in 1927.
