Historical Geography of the Saguenay Valley
|
Abstract |
The author describes the commercial and industrial development of the Saguenay-Lac St-Jean region of Quebec, from the fur trade in the eighteenth century, to the lumber trade in the early nineteenth century, to the pulp and paper industry in the late nineteenth century, to the hydro-electric development and aluminum refining in the early twentieth century. Most of these undertakings were established by Anglophone entrepreneurs, from either Quebec City or the United States.
