Concordia Salus: Triumphal Arches at Montreal, 1860
Abstract
Nine temporary arches constructed for the visit of Prince Edward in 1860 represented Montreal as a model imperial and industrial city where ethnic dissension was reconciled through the image of the concordance of cultures. William Notman recorded the arches in a series of stereographs.
