| Abstract |
The author discusses the effects of the Quiet Revolution in Quebec on religious interaction in the city. The Quiet Revolution of the 1960s caused the rapid secularization of the society, the extension of the welfare state, and the division of politics into federalist and separatist factions. The author discusses how this caused the various religions in Montreal to create a shared common space. Though French speaking Catholics are the majority, much of this change has been caused by an influx of immigrants of various faiths including Islam and Asian religions. The author also covers the various neighborhoods of Montreal and their religious character, but argues that despite the diversity of religions in Montreal they all share a common public space.
