|
Abstract |
A demolinguistic portrait of the English-speaking population of Quebec, based on the 2006 census data. Among their conclusions, the authors found that the English mother-tongue population of the province was 607,165 persons in 2006, an increase of 8.8% over 1951 figures. By comparison, the French mother-tongue population grew by 76.8% over this same period. The proportion of anglophones within the overall Quebec population is 13.4%, with 80.5% living in the Montreal Census Metropolitan Area. Between 1976 and 2006, 307,000 more anglophones left Quebec than anglophones migrated from other provinces to Quebec. Almost 25% of Quebec anglophones have a post secondary degree or diploma compared to slightly more than 15% of the province's francophones.
