The problem of Canada and Canadian identity lies at the heart of the book, covering the personal, the communal and political." The author focuses on three Canadian authors, Charles G.D. Roberts, Ida Maze, and Michel Tremblay. Ida Maze (1893-1962), a poet and essayist, encouraged other poets, authors and artists of the Yiddish literary world at her literary salons in her Montreal apartment on Esplanade Avenue. The author is Ida Maze's son.
