Les soulèvements populaires de 1837-1838: Le regard des historiens

Abstract |
An historiographical analysis of the Rebellions of 1837 and 1838 in Lower Canada. The author points out that the rebellions in Lower Canada have nothing in common with the nineteenth century revolutionary phenomenon in Europe. There, he points out, the democratic struggle between the rulers and the ruled was at the origin of the conflict. In Lower Canada, it was the nationalist sentiment that prevailed over democratic issues.
