Orientation d’acculturation des Québécois francophones à l’égard des Italiens ‘valorisés’ et des mafieux ‘dévalorisés'
Abstract
The authors surveyed the acculturation orientations of Quebec Francophones towards ‘valued’ Italian immigrants and ‘devalued’ Italians involved in the mafia. Quebec Francophone undergraduates (N = 217) completed the Host community acculturation Scale (HCAS) towards the two target groups. The authors explain that the results showed that respondents more strongly endorsed integrationism, integration-transformation, individualism and segregationism towards valued Italians than towards devalued Italian mafiosi. Conversely, Quebecois Francophones more strongly endorsed assimilationism and exclusionism towards Italian Mafiosi than towards valued Italians, thus supporting the hypothesis that Quebec Francophones distinguished between ‘valued’ and ‘devalued’ Italians as opposed to treating Italians as all the same.
