Les églises et la prise en charge de l’enfance au Québec : le cas des institutions d'enfermement pour les jeunes délinquants ou en danger (1858-1950)

Abstract |
A comparative study of Quebec Catholic and Protestant juvenile delinquent facilities between the mid-nineteenth century and the mid-twentieth century. The author argues that Protestants could only afford reform schools that were less well equipped during the first half of the period under review, while Catholic facilities remained better equipped. After 1908 until 1950, the author points out, following the adoption of a federal law that established juvenile courts and through an influx of philanthropy, Protestant facilities outpaced those of Catholics.
