A Survey of Boys' Physical Education in the English-Speaking Public High Schools of the City of Montreal and District

Abstract |
An evaluation of the physical education program for boys in seventeen English language public high schools of Montreal and district, circa 1954. The author compares the Montreal physical education with the American Co-operative Study of the Secondary School Standards and found the Montreal program compared favourably with the American standard. However, the author found that there was a general lack of time for instructional classes and lack of provision for individual needs and problems in the Montreal schools. Evaluation and marking procedures were found to be poor, but physical education teachers were meeting at that time to try to improve that aspect. Both the intramural and interscholastic programs were rated highly, but there was a distinct lack of activities with carry-over value.
