Factors in Absenteeism: A Study of Twenty-Nine Absentee Pupils in the Montreal Protestant Public Schools, 1945-1946
|
Abstract |
The author examines the factors associated with primary school absenteeism in two Montreal inner-city schools, part of the Montreal Central Protestant School Board, between September 1945 and February 1946. These two schools had the highest level of student absenteeism within the school board. Compulsory school attendance came into force under Quebec law in 1943. The author analyzes the complex situations that lie behind the absenteeism of one small group of young Anglophone children from poor families, circa mid-1940s.
