|
Abstract |
A study of the historical development of the villa in Montreal, as well as the typical well-to-do owner, servants, life in the house, and technological developments. The author examines the relationship of the Victorian and Edwardian villa as a typology and predecessor of the egalitarian suburban dream house. The villas the author studies are: Ravenscrag, Lord Mount Stephen's residence, the Hugh Graham residence, the Hosmer house, the Ross residence, the Molson residence, and Purvis Hall.
