The Ladies Protestant Home: 150 Years of History
|
Abstract |
Founded in 1859, the Home was originally a temporary shelter for poor and destitute Protestant immigrant women in Quebec City. In the 1950s, its mandate was expanded to include seniors and non-Protestants, Francophones and men. The Home closed in 1990 and its services amalgamated with St. Brigid's Home. However, the Ladies Protestant Home Foundation remained active by using its assets from the sale of its facility to promote the development of health and social services for English-speakers in Quebec City.
