| Abstract |
The Montreal-based Medical Faculty of the University of Bishop's College, better known simply as Bishop's Medical College, was founded in 1871. It existed for thirty-four years when, in 1905, it merged with the Medical Faculty of McGill University. Two hundred and forty-six men and women obtained their degrees of M.D. and C.M. from Bishop's Medical College, among them Maude Abbott and William Henry Drummond. In 1890, Bishop's was one of the first medical schools to admit women on an equal footing with men. It was also the first university in Quebec to offer a dental course leading to the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery.
