Abstract |
The authors point out that earlier research by others showed that in 1970s Quebec, the distribution of average wages for unilingual English men and bilingual English men were the same, while bilingual Francophone men earned on average less than the two groups of English-speaking men, but more than unilingual Francophone men, who were at the bottom of the distribution of average wages between these four groups. However, the authors point out, by 1995, what happened in Quebec was nothing more than a reversal of the social order of the past whose deepest roots go back as far as the beginning of Quebec's industrialization. This reversal began according to their data and those of other authors between 1970 and 1980, and was complete by 1995.
