Abstract |
Mavis Gallant’s “Between Zero and One” is a short story in Home Truths (1981). Gallant’s female protagonist, Linnet Muir, is repelled by Montreal, as is Atwood’s protagonist, Elaine Risley, by Toronto. But the painter Risley is eventually reconciled to her Toronto, while the writer Muir cannot be reconciled to her Montreal.
