The author points out that Montreal poet Irving Layton (1912-2006) wrote more than 300 love poems wherein woman emerged as a central figure in his vision of reality. The author explains that woman's role in Layton's poetry must be seen against the background of man's world. The author explores the complexity of the role of woman as she relates to man and poet in Layton's love poetry.
