La mémoire seigneuriale au Québec : identité et patrimoine
|
Abstract |
Present day Quebecers, both Francophone and Anglophone, tell their family connections to Quebec's seigneuries. The seigneurial system of land holding was established in New France in the 1600s and was officially abolished in Quebec 1854. At the time of its abolishment, almost 50 percent of the seigneuries were owned by English speakers.
