Abstract |
The Royal Institution for the Advancement of Learning was created in 1801 by the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada. James McGill(1744-1813), a prominent Montreal merchant, bequeathed in trust his l9 hectare estate and £10,000 to the Royal Institution to be used to create a college in the city in his name.
