The Nicolls Papers: A Study in Anglican Toryism
|
| Abstract |
Excerpts from letters written by or to Jasper Nicolls (1818-1877), the first principal of Bishop's University (1845-1877). These letters, mostly between Nicholls and his father-in-law, Quebec Anglican Bishop George Jehosaphat Mountain (1789-1863), or between Nicholls' family and the Mountain family, offer insights into the pro-British colonial mentality of the Anglican Tories of Lower Canada in the mid-nineteenth century.
