| Abstract |
Founded by McGill University Principal J.W. Dawson and his wife in 1871, the aim of the Montreal Ladies' Educational Association was to develop a "... provision of lectures on Literary, Scientific and Historical subjects for the higher education of women, and eventually, if possible, the establishment of a College for Ladies in connection with the university." The courses developed by the Association over its fourteen years of existence served as a prelude to the admittance of women into McGill University's Faculty of Arts in 1885.
