Title
A History of the McGill Faculty Club
Abstract
McGill's Faculty Club was established in 1923. In 1935 the club moved to its present location in the Baumgarten House on McTavish Street. Baron Alfred Baumgarten, a wealthy German-born sugar tycoon, built the house in 1886. McGill University purchased the building in 1926 as a residence for Sir Arthur Currie, who had just become principal of the university. In 1935, the house was renovated to become the McGill Faculty Club.
