Le financement des écoles publiques à Montréal entre 1869 et 1973 : deux poids, deux mesures
|
Abstract |
The author argues that the secondary nature of French Catholic education in Montreal in the period under study, compared to what was offered by the city's English Protestant school system, was because of the lack of funding due to the tax system introduced by the provincial government in 1869 and not because of cultural and ideological factors of the Québécois society. He maintains that this unequal funding system had repercussions on the educational services offered by the Montreal Catholic School Commission and on the Commission's inability to integrate immigrants, especially Jewish immigrants, into its system.
