Abstract |
The Ontario-born Robert Campbell (1835-1921) was a Church of Scotland Presbyterian minister, botanist and author. In 1866, four years after his ordination, Campbell moved to Montreal where he served as minister of the St. Gabriel Street Church until his retirement in 1909. Following his retirement, he held the title of minister emeritus at the church until his death in 1921. Among his many publications, Campbell authored "A History of the Scotch Presbyterian Church, St. Gabriel Street, Montreal" in 1887. This book contains many biographies of founders of Presbyterianism in Montreal. Active in the Natural History Society of Montreal, he contributed seventeen articles on botany to its periodical "Canadian Record of Science", of which he was editor for a number of years. In 1895 he became president of the society. He was also a founding member of the Celtic Society of Montreal, established in 1883.
