The Story of Jewish Vocational Service in Canada
|
| Abstract |
The authors explore the development of Jewish vocational services (JVS) in Montreal and Toronto in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War up to the twenty-first century. JVS in Canada aimed initially to help estranged Holocaust survivors find accommodations and work. But what began modestly grew into organizations offering a range of vocational and professional services and working at the forefront of communal philanthropy leveraging government and corporate support for the betterment of the local communities.
