| Abstract |
The author examines the mobilization of historical revisionism and holocaust denial in the published work (pamphlets, newspaper articles, interviews) of militant Adrien Arcand from a both diachronous and synchronous perspective. Arcand’s revisionist positions, already extreme in the interwar period, were further radicalized in response to key historic events after 1945, notably the Nuremburg trials (1945-1946) and the trial of Adolf Eichmann (1961-1962), which led him to adopt a fully negationist position vis-à-vis the Holocaust. The author notes that Arcand’s revisionist project, already begun in 1929, was informed by his evolving vision of a metahistorical scheme of global Judeo-Communist conspiracy. The author concludes that the Québécois ideologue sought traces of this conspiracy throughout history and in contemporary affairs, seeing in the World Wars and the Quiet Revolution, for example, proof of victorious Jewish plots.
