The Importance of the University Research Ecosystem for Quebec’s English-Speaking Official Language Minority Community
Abstract
This brief calls on the federal government's Action Plan for Official Languages to enhance support for research on Quebec’s English-speaking official language minority community (OLMC), and for what the author calls the “ecosystem” required to produce this research. She notes that while there are at least 13 research centres related to the study of French-language minorities in Canada outside of Quebec, and at least 24 university research chairs related to the study of French-language minorities outside Quebec, there is only one university research centre dedicated to the topic of English-speaking Quebec (Concordia University's Quebec English-Speaking Communities Research Network), and not one university chair on English Quebec studies.
