Montreal's Growth and Economic Changes in Quebec Province, 1851-1911
|
Abstract |
The author argues that the traditional historiographic view of Quebec's economic development during the period under study overlooks the great mobility of the people and the heavy use of water transportation in local exchanges. A section of the author's dissertation is about the languages spoken in Montreal. He argues that with the importance placed on its French element, one can say the city escaped the process of linguistic homogenization other North American cities went through.
