Apartment Housing Then and Now: Vignettes from Toronto and Montreal
|
Abstract |
The author points out that "apartment houses" were controversial insertions into the built environment of Canadian cities in the early twentieth century. Through a series of brief case studies, the author traces the changing fortunes pre-First World War apartment houses in Montreal and Toronto. Among the Montreal apartment houses examined by the author are the Royal George (erected in 1912) and Bishop Court (erected in 1904-1905).
