Abstract |
The Scottish-born and graduate of universities in Scotland, England and Germany, William Peterson (1856-1921) served as Principal of McGill University from 1895 to 1919. As an administrator Peterson showed considerable skill in the engagement of staff and in the management of finance. His administration at McGill saw the creation of Macdonald College and the Conservatorium of Music, and expansion in both the sciences and the arts. He also oversaw the development of the McGill University College of British Columbia, which later became the University of British Columbia.
