Abstract |
A new birth declaration form adopted in Quebec in June 1975 contained questions about the mother-tongue of the father and mother and the mother-tongue of mother's main language of use. The author contends that this allowed him to hypothesize about language transfers and linguistic exogamy between Anglophones and Francophones between decennial censuses. The author found that the percentage of language transfers related to an exogamous marriage increased between 1975 and 1977 for both Anglophone and Francophone mothers. However, the data did not indicate a domination of the mother-tongue of the man on the language of the woman.
