Abstract |
Founded in 1824, the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec is the oldest historical society in Canada, and the country's first learned society. It original objective was the preservation, care and dissemination of the colony's historical records. The Society’s activities gradually became centred on the services of its private lending library for Quebec City's Anglophone population.
